Pitt Meadows is a separate municipality within Metro Vancouver. The Pitt River and Port Coquitlam bound it on the west, the Fraser River on the south and Maple Ridge on the east, and Pitt Lake reaches its north. Most of the city is farmland: the Official Community Plan says 78% of the land is in the Agricultural Land Reserve.

The housing is concentrated in the south, in the Town Centre around Harris Road, which the plan defines as running from Lougheed Highway to 119 Avenue. City Hall is at 12007 Harris Road and the West Coast Express station at 12280 Harris Road. The plan says growth is generally restricted to the highland part of the city, because most of the rest is farmland reserve and floodplain.
